The All-American Tee. These three words sure do conjure up a lot of
images. I instantly think of Marlon Brando's all white tee or John Lennon
in his New York City tee.
While America may have a stranglehold on the imagery, top casual designers
like
Smashing Grandpa,
CRonson and
Drifter have turned to Europe this holiday season for a little inspiration.
Each brand has introduced tees that feature a classic cut glowing with hipster
appeal that we just wouldn't have without, say, London. Which bring us to a
t-shirt so fashionable it's hard to call it a t-shirt:
The
1972 London Glitter Tee from
Smashing Grandpa. The literal sheen of the straight-forward font is almost
ironic on top of the subtle patches and industrial-grey color. The designed
raggedness of the shirt brings you back to that era, sort of in the way that a
souvenir shirt brings you back to that childhood family trip to Niagra Falls.
For the woman who craves fashion over trends, this shirt is a must; it's
completely one-of-a-kind.
On a more feminine note
CRonson's Les Femmes Tee is…I'd have to say, awesome. The wild design evokes
big hair, fire, seaweed, etc: it's intriguing. The bubble text brings us back in
time, while the pink hue is of-the-moment. This is a perfect shirt to complement
distressed jeans.
Here is one more T-shirt designer we can't pass over this winter,
Drifter.
Drifter's entire line features a great comfortable fit and a killer design,
as shown in the
Malzena Tee. This shirt complements the distressed look this season with
old-school silk-screen that looks like you've had it since 1970. The detail of
the silk-screen is artistic; not your every-day find.
